We found the itineraries very helpful and informative. We took your advice about staying in Custer. We spent time taking the scenic trips around Custer State Park and Wind Cave. Enjoyed the Nettles Highway and the Iron Mountain Highway. Took the train ride from Hill City and found it enjoyable and well narrated. Rushmore was not crowded and enjoyable. We didn’t like the Wind Cave scenic drive on the dirt roads. The ranger said the roads were fine but they were not well maintained especially the route five. The Badlands were great with all the pullouts. Unfortunately we saw Deadwood on a rainy day. We stopped at the Devil’s Tower on the way to Yellowstone. Your itinerary mentioned about getting there early. That was so true. We arrived about 10:30am and were able to get a parking spot. This was before Memorial Day. We took the itineraries and altered them to include items we wanted to see in our order. One note, be sure to buy a bag of carrots before seeing the begging burros.

Excellent guide! We just came back from the Black Hills. We followed your itinerary. We went there to see Mt. Rushmore but fell inlove with the Black Hills. We love the little towns. Thank you so much!

We loved this guide of the Black Hills. It took all of the guess work out of our vacation and made our vacation more relaxing. I really liked the audio guides. They really made the historical sites come to life. I will definitely use the other guides for our next trip west.
After hours of many frustrating internet searches trying to develop an itinerary for our South Dakota vacation, I purchased the Black Hills Itinerary from wereintherockies.com. It was a lifesaver. Using the suggestions, maps, and descriptions provided by Matt and Cheryl, I was able to develop a 10 day itinerary for our trip. Our trip was great. I want to thank Matt and Cheryl for enriching our vacation to the Black Hills and Badlands. As I was developing the itinerary I noticed that Matt and Cheryl’s guide did not mention the wildlife Jeep safari. So I emailed them and asked them about it. Within hours they replied and said they were unfamiliar with the wildlife Jeeps Safari, but because they were in the Black Hills at the time they would investigate and get back with me – which they did. Amazing and unexpected customer service! We especially enjoyed Matt’s audio files describing some of the Black Hills and Badlands history. The tip to arrive at Devils Tower before 10 AM was spot on and prevented us from spending hours waiting for a parking space. That tip alone was worth the price of the guide. I have recommended Matt & Cheryl to a number of our friends. When we vacation again, I will check out their guides.
I purchased your Black Hills guide last year and are currently on our way home to Michigan after a quick trip to the Black Hills. We loved the guide and found it very useful. My husband being a bit of a history buff, we appreciated the audio guide. Thanks so much!!
Our family of four (+the dog!) traveled from Wisconsin to the Black hills area and had such a wonderful time because of this guide. It was so much easier especially for such a huge area that everything was already curated for us. We could not have planned a better trip and we were able to spend each evening having fun instead of stressing about the next day. If you have kids definitely spend a few hours at Wall Drug. The locals call it a tourist trap but our kids really had a great time and yes it’s cheesy but in a fun way. We even picked up
some cowboy boots there! Thank you so much for all of your hard work putting all this info together and we wish you guys much success and happiness in your travel planning endeavors.
I have purchased four of Matt and Cheryl’s itineraries. They are invaluable! Today, I’ll review the Black Hills . Although we didn’t go to all of the spots , the information provided gave exactly what was needed. The audios are excellent and provide great info while traveling. Matt’s passion for history makes you smile . We’re hikers so I most appreciated the trail suggestions and all trails recommended were terrific. Info on the presidents was most interesting and I grew to highly respect Teddy Roosevelt . Although we don’t eat out much the dining suggestions were helpful. The review of Custer State Park was just what we needed and it was a great place to visit. Specific information was provided for the Black Hills, Badlands, Wind Cave, Mount Rushmore , Deadwood, Crazy Horse, and always additional activities!
The Black Hills Package 100% made not just “our” vacation enjoyable, it made “my” vacation enjoyable. As Mom, it is my job to make sure our vacation is planned, and everything runs smoothly. Matt & Cheryl made that happen for me and it took a much-needed load off my shoulders. I highly recommend their service and will continue to purchase their guides every summer. Thanks y’all!
